Larijani expresses concern over the "turbulent political climate"

Ali Larijani delivered a speech on Wednesday in which he expressed his concern over the impact of the turbulent political climate on the development of the country. In what many consider to be his most explicit speech since the elections last year, Larijani spoke about the crisis and voiced his desire to put an end to it, claiming that it serves as the primary obstacle to Iran’s development today.

Iranians may see his speech as timely considering that meanwhile oppositionists are using the internet to call for a massive turnout for anti-government protests meant to replace government-sponsored ceremonial parades that traditionally mark the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on the 22nd of Bahman. In his speech, Larijani referred to Ahmadinejad’s administration as “extremists administering the country” who have made grave mistakes. He added that the Leader [Ayatollah Khamenei] is not happy that individuals have oppressed others in his name.
