I hear a lot of commentators and analysts talking about the possible change that the opposition movement led by Mir-Hossein Mossavi might bring to Iran. I don’t mean to be a pessimist or a skeptic, but I’m not sure this movement will bring any change. The only time when movements actually bring about change is when they rally around them all members of society. The reason why the Islamic Revolution was so successful in 1979 is because it rallied around it all members of the Iranian society – the elite, the poor, the bazaaris, the youth, the educated and the uneducated. . .etc. Everyone. However, we don’t see the current opposition movement, although broad, as encompassing as the one in 1979. I wish we can have some Iranians share with us their thoughts on this issue in this forum.
